The 20/20 Vision Campaign will enable Brethren Housing Association to serve more than 20 families at any given time. This doubles our capacity through expanded housing in the Transitions and Fast Track programs and enhanced follow-up support with the new Next Steps program.

Bullet graphic Expanding the Transitions Program
Since 1989, we’ve operated a two-year transitional housing program for homeless women and their children. We work with each family to strengthen their financial self-sufficiency, parenting skills and family life. We help them develop supportive relationships and eventually move into their own housing. Our goal is to grow this program from nine families to 15 families on Hummel Street in Harrisburg.

“BHA helped me to stay clean, giving me a place to call my home for me and my kids. I know though that it's because of God that I am clean and sober today. I owe BHA my life … I just know that I was given a second chance at life for me and my two children and I thank God for making it all possible.”
— Monica, BHA Graduate

Bullet graphic Launching the Fast Track Program
In 2010 we opened Fast Track, a variation on the Transitions program, limited to four months and designed for families who become homeless due to job loss in the current economy, but who do not need the more comprehensive services of our Transitions program to get back on their feet.

Bullet graphic Launching the Next Steps Program
Also opened in 2010, the Next Steps program provides follow-up support to formerly homeless families now living in the community. Rental subsidy is available on a decreasing basis for several months to ease their transition while the participant continues to improve their earning potential.

Bullet graphic Expanding Bagwashi Circles Initiative
Bagwashi is an African word meaning “those that help one another.” Through Bagwashi Circles, program participants strengthen their network of supportive relationships through trained mentors from local churches. As we double the number of families we serve, we must also grow our Bagwashi Circles initiative.
