Program:
Fast Track Program Overview

Fast Track is a rapid re-housing program for single moms, single dads or two-parent families. Many of the families that come to our Transitions program need a longer-time in housing to achieve goals necessary to become self-sufficient.

However, in some cases a homeless family only needs a few months to return to permanent housing; time to get stabilized and save for a security deposit and first month's rent. In discussions with service providers in the Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness, BHA heard calls for a program that is a few weeks/months longer than the 4 week maximum stay in shelter for these types of families.

The Fast-Track Program focuses on the immediate outcomes of financial self-sufficiency and finding permanent housing. The program has a four month time limit, adequate time for a person with employment to save for, and move to, permanent housing. A BHA Program Coordinator works with each Fast Track family to assist them toward completion of these goals.

A formula similar to that used to determine a Transitions participant's program fee is used to determine a Fast Track participant's monthly security deposit fee. For example, if the fee is determined to be $300/month, and the participant leaves the apartment in relatively good condition, they leave the Fast Track program having saved $1,200 after four months to use toward a first month’s rent and security deposit.
