Thursday, December 30, 2010 Last Chance to Give Hope in 2010!
Will you join us giving hope to homeless families as we enter a new year? Here is what your giving meant in 2010:
Over 15,000 nights of housing to formerly homeless women, men and children
Housing and support to over 80 individuals
A new summer camp program for 25 children
80% of our 2009 graduates are maintaining their own housing one year later
Over 3,000 volunteer hours given to rehabilitate housing, mentor families or provide other program support
Your giving makes a difference! Invest in our work today:
We rely on monthly commitments as well as outright financial donations to make our work with homeless families possible.
Please remember: Outright gifts must be processed via our website by 11:59pm EST on December 31, 2010 for your tax receipt to be dated in 2010--or postmarked by December 31, 2010 if sent by postal mail to:

Thursday, December 30, 2010 One Basement, Two Boys, Three Paintings
My family recently redecorated our basement family room. While we were at it, my sons John-Luis and Carlos created three paintings to be used as wall hangings, each with a hidden message for friends of BHA.
Songs: Spanish Grease by Willie Bobo, Porcelain by Moby, and All Sewn Up by David Holmes
On Mondays, BHA families gather for support, life skill classes and monthly dinners
with Bagwashi Circle volunteers. Entering our Transitions program this Fall, Shamika is now surrounded by other single moms and friendships have developed.
“I look forward to getting together with the girls,” as she calls her new friends. In fact, she shared Thanksgiving dinner with two other BHA families in their apartments.
Shamika is one of 11 women currently in the Transitions program. Through their time here, these single mothers and their children gain stability and increase their parenting capacity. They transition to a place of greater independence and also often want to give back, usually from a life that was in crisis.
