Thursday, October 28, 2010 Concert of Hope Highlights
On September 9, 2010, we celebrated our first ever Concert of Hope. After several years of Fall banquets with guest speakers, we decided to try something new, inviting special guest Ken Medema to share his gifts of piano, song and improvisation with us.
Pastor Greg Davidson Laszakovits (pictured, below right) of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, our gracious hosts for the concert, opened the gathering with prayer, along side Steve Schwartz (left) and Chris Fitz (center) of BHA.
About 450 people joined the celebration and we had a fun, humorous, heartfelt, inspiring evening.
We don't use those words lightly. Ken had a way of telling stories of deep meaning that touched our heart and invited reflection.
In the midst of this was laughter and scratching our neighbor's backs and even an impromptu conga line.
Then Brandy (pictured below) and Bianca shared how the program at BHA has touched their lives, and Ken wrote a song for each of them on the spot. It was special moment for these women and all in attendance.
Following these special songs, Janice Ruhl and Heather Kelly (pictured below), co-chairs of BHA's 20/20 Vision Campaign, shared the exciting news of expansion to serve more families, work more directly with youth, and rehabilitate our city block.
We finished the evening with a delightful dessert reception provided by the members of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren.
Many thanks to everyone who made this evening possible, including the sponsors listed below. Through the partnership of sponsors as well as guests giving generously at the concert, we raised over $18,500 for the work of BHA through the 2010 Concert of Hope!

Join us and witness this middle ages Christmas celebration as lords and ladies bedecked in holiday finery are entertained by the lord and lady of the manor house. The festival incorporates many of the traditional elements found in this ancient celebration of the Christmas season: carols, customs, and accoutrements.
The festival will feature choir and instrumentalists, a children’s chorus, lords and ladies, and the performance of an ancient play about the journey of the Magi to Bethlehem. Light-hearted comedy will set the tone for the holiday season. Ridgeway members fill all the singing and acting parts.
Tickets are free but should be reserved in advance by calling the church office at (717) 545-4542 or by e-mailing your request to office@ridgewaycob.org. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
