Christmas Blessings

You might like to check out this recent news spot on local channel WHTM-27 about some blessings for BHA's participant families this Christmas. 'Tis the season....

(Thanks secret Santas...you know who you are.)

New Page Added

As a non-profit organization, we are accountable to every individual and organization that supports our work. Accountability is important in the non-profit world, and its vital that we provide you with the information you need to be well informed in your giving and volunteering.

Therefore, I've just added a Documents page to the website that has our recent Annual Reports, IRS Form 990s, Newsletters and Donation Instruction Forms. Over time I hope to add a few more items as I get them into electronic format. We hope this information is helpful to you and as always, if you have questions, please feel free to contact me at sschwartz@bha-pa.org or (717) 233-6016.

And I recommend that you check out our Christmas Newsletter (PDF, 5.8mb) to read about the progress BHA participant Sonya Dates is making in her journey of growth and healing.

You Can Invest in Hope!

An Open Letter to Our Supporters - December 2007

Right now, BHA needs your help.

We’re working with a terrific group of single women and their children who are working hard to change their lives. Our vision is expanding through Bagwashi Circles. We’re completing a comprehensive review of our program to incorporate the latest thinking and methods for helping homeless single moms get back on their feet. We’ve developed new ways to measure and track our successes. We’ve added the services of a professional therapist to our treatment team.

So many exciting things are happening at BHA. We’re also looking to grow our program to serve more families, but we need to ensure we are on solid financial footing. We’ve worked hard to generate new sources of revenue these past few years to match our vision, but we’ve also been hit with rising housing and program costs for the families we serve. We are specifically in a tight spot as we head into this winter.

As a supporter of BHA, you are a vital member of our team. As our vision grows, so do the opportunities for you to invest in this vision, and see lives being changed. That’s why we’ve named our 2007–2008 campaign Invest in Hope...See Changed Lives. Through this campaign, we must raise $260,000 from all charitable sources, with a targeted goal of $112,000 coming from individual donors and $51,500 coming from churches by March 31, 2008. As I write this, individuals have contributed about $90,000 and churches $32,000 toward these goals. We’re on our way, but your support is vital. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider your support to BHA this Christmas, as well as into next year...and whether you might be able to increase your support as we increase our vision. Please also pray for God’s provision from other funding sources.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of how you can invest in the lives of the families at BHA this Christmas and into 2008.

Grace and peace,
Steve Schwartz
Executive Director

Hope begins in the dark...

This is what keeps us going at BHA:

"Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don't give up." - Anne Lamott in Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life
